Whitening kit I personally recommend

Hello there! I'm on a roll with beauty blogging this week and decided that last but not least I would share with you what is probably the best whitening kit I have ever tried. A couple years ago I had tried just about everything that they sold at your local drugstore as far as whitening kits go. I love to experiment and share what I discovered.
I won't get in to what I didn't like so much since I have discussed that in a previous blog. I will tell you though, that I do recommend Rembrandt 2 Hour White kit:

Rembrandt 2 Hour White

The trays are nice and I felt like I got the decent results for the price. You can pick this up for just under 20 bucks at your local Target store. Will you end up with blinding movie star pearly whites? Probably not ha ha but I did go a couple shades lighter which was nice. Of course it's not the most effective product out there, but for the low price... its worth it! Try it out for yourself and see what you think!

Don't waste money on these beauty products

Hey everyone! I'm big into researching and finding articles and since I am on a roll with that today, I figured I would share some of my top finds for the week. Here is an article I found on Beauty Money Wasters. We have ALL been there before where we have spent hard earned money on a product that didn't impress us. I personally love to blog about what I love and what I wasn't a fan of. This way I can get feedback from my readers and we can compare products. The article above describes three particular products to watch out for.
(CLICK HERE for source of photo)
Under eye cream: There has been no real proof that the area under your eyes need a special product than the rest of your face. Its basically just another way to overcharge you for something you don't
even need.

Designer lipstick and eye shadow: Often these spendy products are made up of the exact same ingredients. In my opinion, you just end up paying for the designer label.

Split end repair/Conditioner: This is a big one for me since I use a lot of conditioning products. I have never allowed myself to spend over $18 on a product. A lot of the more expensive products will deliver equal satisfaction when compared to a cheaper product.

15 Beauty Products To Try

Hello everyone! Here I am tonight with another blog about beauty products but I came across a particular article that caught my attention. Its called 15 Beauty Products To Try Before You Die by Allure. It sounded interesting so I took a look at it and some of these products I have personally tried. For example, the Crest White Strips:

CREST 3D WHITE PROFESSIONAL EFFECTS WHITESTRIPS
I do have pretty good teeth... nothing funky looking by any means ha ha. I want to know though, has anyone had any amazing results with these? I never really noticed great results myself and I tried them time and time again. I won't knock them... and maybe its just me but I never had much luck with getting my teeth whiter then about two shades.

One thing I would love to try are Shu Uemura:

SHU UEMURA FALSE LASHES IN FARFALLINA
They sell for $20 a pair but are reusable if taken care of properly and they look as real as natural lashes. Every girl should try a pair of falsies in her lifetime =)

Also, surprisingly I have yet to try nail polish strips. I was hesitant how long they would last and if they would look corny or not. I think its worth a try!!

Beauty gotta haves for SPRING

Hello everyone! I figured I would quickly share with you something I came across on Yahoo while browsing through the top stories and latest news. As you know, this blog contains a lot about crafts and fashion so I figured those of you interested in those things might want to see the Beauty Must-Haves for Spring 2013! Some of these items on this list I have not tried... Well, I'll be honest most of them I haven't ha ha but I will tell you about the few that I have:

Revlon Color Stay 16 Hour Eye Shadow in Sea Mist
You can pick this up at Target for what should be less than $7. This is a great color selection for spring and it truly does seem to stay on a little longer. I have always loved Revlon!

I just picked up this color recently! I have brown eyes so its hard for me to personally pull blue off, but if done right it can look amazing! If you have blue eyes already then this will just make them look even more blue! A perfectly bright color for spring! Its also waterproof... and beach ready!

House of Coach Coffret Set
I love Coach but have not tried this. However, for the Coach fans out there... Check out their latest fragrances for the season and get it for under $50!

Give Your Cubicle a Makeover

With Spring cleaning in full swing I have found myself so bored with my work cubicle / desk (whatever you would like to call it) it's pretty blah and bland and I need some inspiration! We don't have any windows so the office is pretty dark and gloomy. In an effort to add some personal touches I have decided to give my desk make over.

Since I pretty much have a whole office to myself it's a blank slate to work with. I'm a very artistic and creative person but if you saw my desk at work you would never think so, it's pretty boring. I would love to get some windows in the place but I know that's obviously not doable  With a limited budget and a little creativity I plan to do this ...

  1. add color with lots of plants and flowers
  2. re-position my computer to give me a new perspective
  3. bring in pops of color with a bright colored lamp and flower pots
  4. frame photos of things that make me happy and motivated
  5. fill up my desktop with McCalls Candles (my favorite) to add fragrance and a touch of home
After browsing through Pinterest I saw this beautiful desk and was completely inspired! I hope my desk looks as good as this one, I think I would be a lot more inspired and happy :)
Some others that I just love!

Bedroom comforter: How to get its FLUFF back

My last topic for the week is how to get back that fluff to your comforter. A problem we all have and will encounter again and again. We purchased our comforter a couple years back. With having pets and a child I tend to wash it pretty often so as you can imagine, its not nearly as puffy or comfortable as it was when we first got it. Luckily though, there is a way to restore some of that fluff back into your blanket for less than it would cost to go buy a whole new set.

Just a quick tip: If the cotton or feathers inside of your blanket have shifted and clumped together (usually due to washing) here is a fast fix that may help:
Dampen the comforter then place it in the dryer with two tennis balls. Yep, tennis balls. This will help distribute the stuffing a little. I heard that shoes (sneakers) work too. CLICK HERE for more info =)

I searched the web and found a site that will walk you through the process step-by-step. Be prepared to purchase fiber-fill! You must also know how to sew.
CLICK HERE to a direct link to a blog in which the lady explains all about how to restore the stuffing in an old comforter.
This does work for those who are not ready to give up on their beloved bedding or who just want to add more comfort to their blanket.

Good luck!!

Our room... how to create a similar style!

Good evening readers =) I finally get to show you our bedroom tonight and how I managed to decorate it without spending a fortune! Half of our bedroom decor I created myself out of items and supplies that we had around our home/storage and also with a little help from a handy man!

*note: I can't paint here but if I could, the walls would of been either a warm burnt honey or a cool gray.

So here is one side of our room. Growing up I always had real bright and vibrant colors such as orange for my bedroom. Now that I'm about to be married and am sharing the room with my partner, I compromised ;)
The room is blue, purple and brown. Calm colors that help you get in a relaxed state of mind before you go to bed. I went with an antique style mixed with modern which was popular much of 2012. Popular or not, I don't even care I love it and its staying for awhile ha ha.

We will start with the night stands:

When we got our first place (before this one) we didn't have any night stands. I had someone I know make us just these very simple solid wood stands. I told our handy man to stain the stands to resemble espresso and to leave a space open large enough for a bin to use just like a drawer. I went to Target and purchased these wicker bins on sale =)
The purple candle holder casts cool shadows around the room at night and is perfect for the bedroom! You can find it at HomeGoods. Target sometimes sells similar candle holders down their candle isle.
The two frames were also do-it-yourselfers! I created a blog in the past about how to decorate your own frames. I bought a bunch of wooden frames at the thrift store, took them home and painted them. I went to our local craft store and bought scrapbook paper with the same patterns that I wanted for our bedroom and placed them in the frames. BOOM! It added a really cool touch to the room for dirt cheap =)

This night stand has a set of organizers on it. I got these from one of my favorite stores called Kirkland's. This is thee go-to store for all your home decorating needs. I LOVE IT! If you haven't been there, CLICK HERE and check out their website. These organizers were about 5 bucks and added an old charm to the room!

One of my favorite walls in our room:

Notice the small purple antique frame on top and the oval frame in the background? Both were from a thrift store. I thought they would look awesome with a funky, vibrant color to add that modern/antique feel to the room. The crystal looking candle holder was one of my favorite finds at one of my favorite stores called HomeGoods. If you have never been there, you should go! Check out their website: CLICK HERE
The two big pictures were on sale from HomeGoods. We had someone make the corner shelves for the room and put candles on each.

Back to the main photo:
I love the crystallized accent we put above our bed. This was purchased at Kirkland's for very little! The other side of our room also has a HUGE floor mirror we had put together and stained! it was made out of scrap wood and a mirror from storage! Buy them brand new in the store and find yourself spending two or three hundred. What got cut off in this photo was a cute foot stool at the end of the bed that was from Target.
Although I'm not 100% sure how much it cost in total to decorate, It was definitely no more than about $150 when all was said and done. You can't beat that! My future plans are just to make our own headboard! To my surprise a few of my Facebook friends made their own and posted about it so I know if they can do it, so can I =) I'm excited to do that hopefully this summer! Stay tuned =)

Tips to remember when redecorating

Hello readers! I'm always a busy body around our home whether its organizing, cleaning or creating. I have learned a lot about decorating around the house ever since we got our first place a few years back. I have made some mistake purchases along the way but luckily I know a few more pointers now. They definitely come in handy when choosing new items to bring into your home.

First off I want to talk about patterns. I LOVE patterns! Right now I'm into almost every pattern Target has to offer on their home items. I'm also still a big fan of animal print and floral. Unfortunately, that tends to clash when its mixed together, ha ha.
Our first apartment was all decked out in animal print.
Check it out:

(Of course my adorable pet had to be perched right in the middle, ha ha.)

I'll give you a quick breakdown of where I got everything back then. I will also give you some tips explaining how I have changed from this animal print look to another style.
The couch actually never came with the large over sized foot rest. Believe it or not I found the foot rest at a furniture outlet and it just so happened to be the same exact color as the couch. It was also less than $75. Score! The pillows were just from Kohl's, Target and Walmart. Its hard to see but the animal print lamps were from Pier 1 Import. Kinda spendy but they were a gift. The picture frames were from Family Dollar. They actually had a cute leopard print frame which was the real reason I wanted them. I ended up taking the animal photos our and placing photos of our family in them instead! The zebra bean bag was from Kohl's. The zebra rug was from Target. I do not recommend that kind of rug if you have kids or pets. I cannot remember what it was made out of but my cat got sick on it and when I tried to clean up the mess, the black bled onto the white and it was ruined =( The fake tree was from Good Will and they almost always have them. At least the one in Elk River, MN does. I eventually ended up putting small white lights in the tree for a cool night light effect =) I barely spent anything and still managed to have our whole room decorated!

This was all BEFORE we settled down and had our son. Since then we have moved and the only thing I still have is the bean bag chair in our spare room, the lamps are in storage and the tree with lights sits in our current living room. EVERYTHING ELSE IS DIFFERENT. I'll post new photos in a future blog but now I'm going to explain why I decorated this way...

Notice the couch is a solid color? Patterns go out of style pretty fast. If you are not rich, I recommend staying with furniture that are a more neutral color. (this isn't neutral but its what I had to work with at the time)
For example: its cheaper to add new throw pillows for 20 bucks that add a pop of color and a new pattern rather than having to go buy all new furniture for who knows how much because you are sick of the pattern on it. I mean, you can't have a green and red floral couch and then decide you want to go safari and add black and white zebra pillows can you? ::Shakes head:: You would have to replace your furniture which is more expensive of course. So I highly recommend solid colors and very little pattern with furniture. Instead, add pattern and color to your room with items such as candles and holders, lamp shades, pillows, and accent rugs. These are all inexpensive and when you want a change, you can easily replace them! Try to limit patterns however and focus more on colors. That way when you change the look of the room, its less you have to change =)

Next is painting! If you rent, I feel your pain because most of us can't paint but if you are allowed to... take advantage! Painting is a great way to change the look of a room without spending much and you can always switch it up! Try an accent wall to add pattern to your room as well =)
Accent wall:

*notice the solid/neutral couch with patterned pillows added. The more expensive pieces in this photo are neutral while the inexpensive little items added to this room are the ones with the character.

Another great tip for decorating your home with a trend that will eventually pass is using wall decals. They stick onto the wall very easy with no mess, they are inexpensive and can be taken down without ruining the wall.

Coach Designer Handbags

There are many reasons why I love shopping online, one happens to be that I save on gas!! Other great reasons for shopping online are that, from the comfort of your own home you can search as many stores as you want, and you don't even have to leave your pajamas! I spend a great deal of time surfing online trying to find great deals to share.

When I stumble upon a great deal I like to make note, and add it to my favorites list on my desktop. I recently have been trying to find a Coach bag. We all know how expensive that they can be, until today! {Hallelujah!!} I found this great website that sells Coach Designer Handbags, at a great price that I can actual afford!  With deals like this, I can afford to stay on the couch and shop from home, saving even more money by not driving my car and using up gas.

Eyeballing the Canon Rebel T4i...

Two things that I wouldn't mind... being rich and having more hours in a day. Whelp, its safe to say I can keep dreaming! And just like that... Snap! Back to reality... I am about a month and a half away from our wedding and busy than ever! I completed some very helpful photography classes this winter and now here I sit with my camera collecting dust in our computer room. Figure of speech... don't worry, my lens is clean =) My plan of attack is after the wedding is behind us, to get serious about my hobby! Then I will have way more time (and less stress of everything) to just focus on making some (hopefully) amazing photographs!
For the first time today I thought about if wedding photography would be a good idea for me? Even if it was just a wedding every month or two. The thing is, if anything goes wrong... you can't go back and re shoot a wedding! That's the only thing that makes me wonder if I want to go forth with it but its something to think about. I also thought about upgrading my first Canon Rebel for this puppy:
Introducing...

The Canon Rebel T4i 18MP Digital SLR Camera

Canon EOS Rebel T4i 18MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm EF-S Lens - Black

My camera is nice too. I could definitely use the larger screen though and more mega pixels would be nice for when I blow up photos. In order to make it possible to get this I would have to sell my kit and save for a little bit. My issue isn't as much about purchasing this as it is just waiting until I have all my time to dedicate to my passion. I plan to register a name for my photography in May. I have a feeling that this spring/summer is going to be one of the best yet! Fingers crossed =)

OOOH! If I wasn't busy with wedding planning and a 23 month old son I would be taking up lamp makeovers all over our house! Well, ours don't really need it. Its never too early to get your glow on!

When most of us think of summer, one of the things that comes to mind is sun kissed skin! How you achieve that look is up to you. Since I am a Minnesotan and we are 3 days out from the first day of spring, I can't exactly go lay out at the beach just yet. Last year we had an 80 degree St Patricks Day weekend but that's just not in the cards this time around. Try snow and temps in the 20's. Boo. That's OK though, I have a few tips on how to get that glow without the sun! You could go to a tanning salon and fake bake or try their spray tan. If you are walking around your local drug store or department store, I have some products you might want to try!

First off, I have been using this for YEARS. Introducing:
Jergens Natural Glow Moisturizer - 6 oz SPF 20 (Medium/Tan)
Source: Target
You can get this with or without sunscreen. It comes in various levels depending on how much color you want over time. I use medium to tan and it works just fine for me. I naturally have an olive skin tone. It gives a pretty natural looking color and has great reviews. I use it year round =) Get this for under $10!

For your face:

Rimmel Natural Bronzer

Source: Walmart
I typically use Rimmel otherwise New York Color (NYC) works well too. Both are under 5 bucks which is nice!

What do other people recommend? Here are a couple links to check out!

Tips to make your hair color last

As you have realized, your hair only seems vibrant a couple weeks after coloring it. Is there anything that you can do to help slow the fading process? Sure! While your color won't last forever, it will last longer if you follow these easy steps:

After dunking into saltwater or chlorine, be sure to rinse your hair with fresh water. Chlorine is especially hard on bright blonde hair.

Unfortunately the sun can fade your hair. To keep the UV rays from taking away your brilliant color, try some type of hat while out in direct sunlight.

Rinse your hair in cool water while taking a bath.

Try to use very little heat styling. This includes blow dryers. Let your hair air dry when possible.

Recolor your hair as often as recommended.

Use specific shampoo and conditioner designed for color treated hair.

Last but not least, be sure to use leave in conditioner and/or heat protectant spray to help keep your hair moisturized and protected longer from heat damage.

Below are a couple products I recommend you try:

Color Extend Shampoo, 33.8 oz
Source: Walgreens

You really can't go wrong with Redken. The reviews are great and the results are satisfying. Be sure to look for their conditioner as well!

Tigi Bed Head Ego Boost Split End Mender & Leave-in Conditioner

Source: Target
Leave in conditioner will not only help with those dry split ends but it will help lock in moisture to keep your color vibrant a little longer. Target usually has a sale on this particular kind. I use it and like it so far.

CHI 44 Iron Guard Thermal Protection Spray, 8.5 oz

Source: Walmart
I love this stuff! It seems to help and usually leaves my hair feeling better afterwards. I am guilty of straightening my hair almost daily so I keep a bottle of this around.

Back to Basics Coconut Mango Rich Moisture Shampoo - 33 oz / liter

I purchased these at my hair salon and thought that they worked really well. I definitely recommend them =)

Last but not least....

Biolage Color Care Conditioner - 33.8 oz
Matrix with Biolage!
Source: Target
Like Redken, its a little spendy but I love it! The smell is nice and I at least like to think that I notice a difference when I use this product =)

SXSW Festival: What's hot and whats NOT?

 Hello Readers!
I try to check my email everyday on Yahoo. While I'm at it, I browse their top stories on the main page. Tonight I came across a story with the Title: SXSW Style: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly. This was taking place at the music and film festival so don't expect any styles appropriate for a day at the office. Its fun to see the different ways people use their creativity when they are free to dress up how they want! I will admit some of this I wouldn't try out for myself but I do dig the bright and colorful hair, decked out hands, bags and sunglasses. Its all about being comfortable while you are outside all day/night and still having fun!

Click here and check it out for yourself.

I plan on going to at least one outdoor festival/concert this summer so hopefully I can pick up a few tips on how to dress for fun AND comfort with this years fashion. No matter what though, just go to enjoy yourself and have a GREAT time!!

One last thing: A Cross-Body Bag is a MUST for outdoor activities during the summer months!
Check out the photo and click on the link below to Charlotte Russe. They have a great selection! I also recommend Rue 21 Etc =)

Check Out These Engagement Rings Orange County Has to Offer!

With my upcoming wedding, I've been obsessing over all things wedding. I frequently hit up The Knot because it has everything I need when it comes to wedding planning. When you sign up for the site, you can customize your profile with what you want for your big day. They have pictures that have been uploaded from users which gives great ideas for venues, centerpieces, dresses, flowers, hairstyles, wedding jewelry, and so much more! I don't know how anybody can plan their wedding without it. You can create a guestlist, a wedding website, and more.

One of my favorite things to browse through is the engagement and wedding rings. After all, this is the most important, isn't it? I was so impressed with the engagement rings Orange County has to offer. Simone and Son has a great selection of gorgeous rings! They also specialize in the custom design and creation of jewelry, so you can get a ring that it's unique and just for you. What is your favorite ring on their site?

Then and now fashion trends

So I had a guy not too long ago mention to me that he noticed women are better looking today in some ways more then they were in previous decades. I thought about it for a moment and then it hit me... my best friend and I always comment to each other how we wished that we knew this makeup technique when we were in high school or how we wished that they had this fashion trend back when we were a little younger. As time passes of course new ideas are released to the public and the future of makeup and fashion will only grow! I thought it would be fun and neat to do a quick blog about then and now!

 The 80's:
One word... Madonna!
Big frizzy hair, large colorful accessories, dramatic and colorful makeup and over sized tops.

oh yeah... it wouldn't be the 80's without the Aqua Net! My mom used to have this on hand at all times lol!

The 90's:
The transition from big frizzy hair to straight, flat, simple styles. Floral dresses, bright colors, high waisted jeans and dark lipsticks. Ahh the 90's ha ha =)

 Early 2000's:

Flares, bell-bottoms, belly baring tops, short hair cuts and sleek hair gelled back come to my mind!

Late 2000's

Layers! Longer hair is starting to make a comeback, ballet flats are almost everywhere at this point, accessories of all kinds are a hit, wearing multiple bracelets at once and big rings are in too.

TODAY:

I will show you what I personally find neat and what I would not consider "better looking"... its just my opinion so please don't take offense!

Um NO...

and no...

I'm not a real big religious person but Jesus is my homeboy and this is just NOT my thing. If its yours... good for you?

Moving along...

This is what I do dig:

skinny jeans, heels, long flowing hair, and pastel colored accessories =)

Now back to what that man had said... women today have a few more advantages then earlier years. Most men don't fully understand what us women secretly do in the bathroom which takes us a lifetime to get ready... but we aren't just watching the clock... we are busy! now days we have contouring techniques that we know how to do at home, false eyelashes to apply, sometimes hair extensions, teasing of our hair to give the look of more volume without having to go all 80's on it, hidden heel wedge shoes to add height, big padded push up bras thanks in part to there being a Victoria's Secret in nearly every mall now, not just tanning salons but tanning lotions and spray, teeth whitening kits and procedures, better tattoo coloring, etc etc I could keep going on....
Even photo shopping has become so common and easy for anyone to use!
My point is... it might not only be an opinion but maybe a fact as well that people are being better looking over time. Advancements in technology and style has a great deal to do with it and there are more products to offer then the ladies in the generations before us.
No matter how much I adore fashion and creating things... I will always be a believer that true beauty is within =)

Side note: Today I purchased Fergie's Hollywood Walk of Fame By Wet n Wild at my local Walgreens. Its a cool nail polish to try out!
