Take the Unique Engagement Ring Style Quiz!

When it comes to choosing an engagement ring, there is a lot to think about! Which shape does she like? What shape will look good on her? How do you know what design to buy? These are all questions that most everyone answers before proposing to "the one". You want to choose one ring among the many ring options. Not only do you want to just "pick one" but you want it to fit her personality. But how do you do which to choose?

I found this quiz today that helps you find the perfect engagement ring for your girl. I took the quiz for myself (as if buying for myself) and it fit me to a tee!! They even give ring options that fit your personality. I have never seen anything like it and thought it was really useful. I want to discretely send this link to my boyfriend ;) haha, but seriously! This quiz really is amazing and spot on. Take the quiz here.

When I took the quiz this is what I ended up with:

She's Bohemian
She's Bohemian
Your girl is totally in touch with nature; she also doesn't sweat the small stuff and can be perfectly happy with something extravagant or with something low key. Because she's eco-friendly, she'll want you to be extra careful with avoiding blood diamonds. Pick an engagement ring from a manufacturer that touts its environmentally friendly roots, or go to smaller designers that make handmade engagement rings that are antique in style or made with raw diamonds. These unique engagement rings are sure to match her bohemian style. Recommended styles: (left) Megan Thorne (right) Parade Designs

I'm bummed they discontinued this being sold separately!

Girls love to do a quick color job with the box kits from the store for two reasons:
Number one: They want a quick, inexpensive way to get a new look.
Number two: They love the conditioner that it comes with!
If you were lucky, you got a whole tube of the deep conditioner so you could keep reusing it!
I always thought to myself, they would make a killing if they sold this tube separately! Agreed? Agree! (LOL) Well one day I was at Walmart... (I believe down the isle with the hair color kits) when I noticed a small box with Clairol's Nice 'N Easy Color Seal Conditioner. It was the same exact tube that comes in their hair color kits! It retailed for about a little over $3 but it was so worth it! I would buy it every now and again to help keep my hair feeling amazing!
Time has been flying by these days with everything that we have going on so last week I figured I would go buy a tube when I was at Walmart. I checked the hair-dye isle. No luck. Hmm, maybe it was down the shampoo and conditioner isle. No luck. After going back and forth between the two again... and maybe again (lol) the thought occurred to me that they either stopped selling it or I would have to check a special store such as Sally Beauty for this type of product now.
I went home and did some research on google and was bummed to find out that they discontinued this amazing product =( Well, you can still get it in your hair color kits but they no longer sell it separately. Amazon had people selling their personal stash for $15 a tube... now why in the world would you buy that when you could just buy a hair color kit for under $10 and just take out the tube and ditch the rest of the kit? It sounds like a pain in the butt though =( Clairol, I am not a happy camper!

I got a feeling this product might be sold separately again one day, at least I can only hope. They say its discontinued but I'm crossing my fingers it pops up again soon!

My favorite store for the latest trending jewelry!

I love to add accessories to any outfit! Sometimes they can get a little spendy depending on where you shop. Your accessories an easily cost more than your outfit! Well I love to have a variety of choices but I also don't want to spend an arm and a leg on a trend that will soon pass. With that said, my favorite go-to place for affordable and always trending jewelry is Rue 21 Etc! They carry the latest arrivals for a great price! I don't get that seen-it-before over and over feel when I'm looking through their selection. Everything is what is trending NOW. This also goes for all of their accessories from bags, tights, hats, sunglasses, makeup, etc! Click on the link below to go directly to their jewelry and accessories:

Here is the link to this fun necklace: http://www.rue21.com/en/for%20Girls/etc/Jewelry/JC%20NECK%20YELLOW.aspx?color=YELLOW

I rocked another color of this necklace from Rue 21 in a previous blog! Check it out:

I thought it was a little too big and flashy for my style when I seen it in the store... but change doesn't happen with the same old routine. I brought it home and ended up loving the new look =)

Can't Wait To See All The Prom Dresses This Year!

Even though it's only February, it is prom season. This year my brother is a junior in high school and he built up the courage to ask a girl he likes to the prom! Not only did he just "ask" her to the prom he did it in the most extravagant way....
Ben, my brother, works at a radio station, so he has access to talk on air. The night before asking his prom date he delivered flowers to her front door step anonymously (how does he think this stuff up?) The next day he talked to her friends and they somehow got her to listen to the radio while he was on air. While on the radio live he said, "Tori, will you go to prom with me, text me your answer." I couldn't believe he had the guts to ask her that way!! Of course she said "yes". What is it with high school boys asking girls to the prom in such extravagant ways, what gentlemen.

Back when I went to prom (omg I'm starting to sound like my Mom) we asked each other at school and it was not fancy at all. As a big sister I literally can't wait to go watch him and his cute date at the grand march. It's going to be really weird to see my baby brother in a tux and all of his little friends that I remember from his kindergarten class decked out in prom dresses

Hidden Wedge = Hidden Height

Hidden wedge shoes are everywhere nowadays! You get the benefit of adding height with a heel but keeping it hidden with the sneaker design. Target has a couple cool designs to pick from but they're not the only store to carry hidden wedge sneakers either. These shoes are nothing short of amazing! Believe it or not they are very comfortable and easy to walk in! No wobbling here! Perfect for those of you like me who love heels but can't walk in them very well. They are a must for those who want to dress up but also want to feel comfortable. The black pair below are a pair I purchased and love! A great choice for someone who is feeling edgy!

Explore a new store for your bridesmaid dress!

Here is where I get a little bit excited, maybe even borderline bananas over this topic! I am literally waking up in 8 hours to go bring my last few bridesmaids in to purchase the cute dress that we picked out this past Saturday. Had I of seen this site any sooner, I may have picked something from here!

Rosette Taffeta Strapless Mini Dress Prom Party Formal Gown
Take this adorable and fashionable dress for example... it fits your figure in all the right places! You honestly cannot find many prices that beat that either! Check out the link below for the orange dress:

Contrast Lace Mesh Ruffle Long Dress
Contrast Lace Mesh Ruffle Long Dress

This next dress is one of my favorites! I'm in love! Our wedding is purple as well and the black lace is gorgeous! I would of grabbed this in a heartbeat for my girls to try on!
Since this dress has a lot of detail, it should be admired. With that said, I would keep the accessories simple. This bracelet would make a great addition to the outfit!
Stretch Crystal Cuff Bracelet Silver Finish

This company puts out great dresses that have a lot of detailing. That's something you won't find in too many other shops. I found that to be true with my own shopping experience!
I might have to do another blog just on PacificPlex and their beautiful and affordable bridesmaid dresses. There are too many cute ones and I cannot narrow it down!
This is the part where I log off and kick myself in the rear for not seeing these dresses before my bridesmaid dress shopping this past week, ha ha. I have a personal love for the second dress! At least we did find a cute one for a great price anyways =)
Happy shopping!

The future of makeup

This is something most of us don't give much thought but if you think about it... makeup has came a long way over the years! In fact, some were deadly! Makeup was traced as far back as the ancient Egypt era. Click here for the history of makeup.
With that said, I bet you are now wondering what makeup will be like in the future. There is no doubt that it takes most of us ladies a while to apply makeup if in fact we put on everything we want to. Some of just just don't have that kind of time. I know of a few girls who have went as far as getting tattoos on parts of their face to replace makeup such as eyeliner. Tattooing eyebrows is another idea. The only problem with tattooing makeup is what will happen when you want to change the color? Uh-oh!
Well an idea that might help save us some time in the future is LED eyeshadow. No powder, no paints, just lights! Check out the links below the pictures for the source of the photo and the articles!

Here is another site that describes press-on make up for those who either cannot apply their own very well or who are in a hurry:

noche1.jpg

Scientists today are busy behind the scenes working on products that won't be released for the public to purchase for years. Lipstick that adapts to the changes of light so it will look good no matter if its day or night.
Also, sunscreen will come in a pill. Wouldn't that be convenient?
One thing that is pretty mind blowing and excites me is apparently L'Oreal is currently working on creating a pill that will stop grey hair! If all goes as planned, it could be out in as soon as 2015! For a link to that site and more info, click here.

Imagine botox with no needles, wrinkle fillers and non surgical cosmetic procedures.
Smart phones? How about smart makeup?! Imagine a type of foundation that is able to blend and match your very own tone just by applying it? There wouldn't be a need to stand there and hope you are purchasing the right kind for your skin tone. Better yet, imagine that foundation wiping away wrinkles with a 3D formula! There will be makeup to please women of all ages. There is no doubt that as technology advances, so will makeup. Its hard to picture the thought of makeup that will have the ability to play tricks and make the human eye see no wrinkles and brilliant colors! Anything is possible...

How to put in your own hair extensions!

I was originally going to blog about how red seems to be all the rage lately, not to mention purple! I took this to another level today though. While I was out running errands though, I realized I was near Sally Beauty and thought I'd stop in. You see, I have been coloring my hair black on and off for years but lately decided to stick with it! The only downfall to black is when you want to add color, its a pain in the rear to take the black out. With that said, I thought I would just try to add red colored hair extensions! This way I get the benefit of a little longer hair and a bright new color without the hassle of paying big bucks and a lot of time in the salon.

You can add hair extensions a number of different ways: fusion, weaving, bonding, clip-ins, the mini-link method and tape on. The first few methods can cause damage to your hair but last longer. The last few don't cause very much damage if any at all but don't last quite as long either. Its a personal preference and also depends on how much money you are willing to throw down. I create these blogs and try to aim for the everyday person who loves a little challenge, some DIY (do-it-yourself) and who wants to save a buck! With that said, here are the two ways I recommend you go about adding extensions: Clip-ins and the mini-link method!

Now, before I explain any further I just want everyone to know that I have actually been working with clip-ins for almost a year now. Here is what I purchased:

I bought brown and later ended up coloring them black. ALWAYS BUY REAL HUMAN HAIR! Synthetic hair extensions cannot be styled with heat! This particular brand has held out for almost a year now for me and they are still going strong! Just take extra care of them! All you have to do is find a good place to put them on your head and literally just clip them in! When you want to take them out, just unclasp them! Its THAT simple! I know someone who went into a salon and paid about $500 to get hair extensions bonded to her real hair and then she tried clip-ins at home as her next method... she said never again will she go back in to the salon. Clip-ins are where its at! I paid in the ballpark of about $150 back when I got mine. The funny thing is, I already have extremely long hair! I was one of those who just wanted to add extra body to my head of hair! For me its not adding length but just more hair, ha ha =)
This is my number one recommended method!

My number two is the mini-link method!
This one is appealing because its very affordable and it can spice up your look with little effort!
Here is what you will need:

The actual hair extensions were just a little over $20 and the links were under $20.

Be sure to have pliers!

I panicked for a moment because I couldn't find my crochet hook but then I remembered my fiance was going to attempt dread locks at one point. He purchased this packet of hooks so I got lucky there!

You simply put your hook through a bead...

Pull a very small bit of hair through the bead using the hook. This gets easier and faster once you know what you are doing. It might be a little frustrating at first, ha ha. Just hang in there! It gets much easier!

Using the pliers, clamp down on the bead as hard as you can so that it locks the top of the hair extension to your hair. Try to do this as close to your roots as possible.

Make sense? =) Pretty simple, huh?

The photo above is what it will start to look like! At this point I hadn't even used half of the extensions yet. The more you add, the more dramatic your look!

ROCK ON!!

So now you have an idea just how easy the clip-in and mini-link methods are!

The edgy NEW stiletto/claw nail trend

Hello readers =)
I'm sure most of you have seen celebrities rocking the stiletto/claw manicure style. If you haven't, here it is:

It's obvious where it got its name! Your nails are long and pointy instead of squared off like you would typically see. So far I haven't seen too many manicures like this on the streets but it's a huge trend in tinsel town. My question is, what do YOU think about it??

Check out the source link right above this to a website showing the top nail trends of 2013.
My personal opinion on this trend is up in the air. I'm always willing to try something new but dare I say this might actually be a little too wild and unnatural for my own taste... I don't hate it, but I won't know for sure until I have tried it myself! If nothing else, it would make a great idea for Halloween ha ha =)

A shout out to my friend Michelle for finding this link! Check it out if you are a DIY nail fan:

Hot trend: Knuckle rings!

Source: http://www.etsy.com/listing/107316717/4-above-the-knuckle-rings-chrome-silver

Hey everyone! We are snowed in here in Minnesota tonight but that's not stopping me from getting my work done! One trend that I might just have to try out for myself is the knuckle rings. You can wear them just as they are shown in the photos here otherwise knuckle rings are also known as those large rings that have a long design that cover about half of your finger. If you don't like something so gaudy, then these smaller rings are perfect =)

Wear them out for any occasion. They compliment manicures as well =)
Check out my links for places to look/purchase them. I couldn't find these smaller knuckle rings at my local Target, Walmart, or online at Claire's just yet but that doesn't mean you won't find them there the next time you go shopping.

A quick guide to DIY nail art

I went to Sally Beauty Supply and purchased one of their packs of nail art. It came with multiple color choices of glitter and matching colors of tiny bits of shells. I also purchased Orly's base coat + top coat polish to help finish the job. Here is a super quick guide on how I managed to create my own nail art in a time crunch!
Paint your nails any color of your choice. I chose this by Sally Hansen's Xtreme Wear:

It tried too fast for me to get to start decorating so I applied a layer of Orly as I mentioned above. I sprinkled on a thin layer of glitter on to my thumb and one finger of my choice. I personally usually prefer to just style one or two of my nails. Call me weird ha ha but its a trend I like!
Next I took the little wooden tool that came with the kit and I dipped it in my Orly bottle to get it sticky then I dipped it into the bag. Whatever shell bits that stuck to it I placed onto my nails. Once I was done I covered It with another top coat of Orly. Now, so far the nail art shell bits have did OK with staying glued on. The lady at Sally's who helped me pick everything out said that would be all I would need to keep everything glued on. If not, Ill be back for a different bonder.
Here is a link to my exact kit:

Here is the end results! Don't mind my painted skin, ha ha I didn't clean up quite yet =) Also my nail polish remover is why my finger nail tips are white.

It looks way cute in person and was really easy to do! I did it all while on a time crunch!

Spring fashion ideas pt 1

I know its not even valentines day let alone spring but I can't help but to think about it as we started to get slammed by a big snow storm, ha ha. Plus, stores are already putting out their summer items. Even Target has out their BBQ gear and children's beach toys! I know this because their toys for the beach such as little boats work great for the bathtub too! Just figured any moms out there might want to consider that for your little toddlers.
Anyways, this spring I plan on going with a county theme. Last spring Indian patterns were really hot. I'm going to try my luck at rocking some cowboy boots (with a little edgy style to them) and some flowered tops and hand crafted jewelry. Something I'm not normally in to but you only live once. I'm not afraid to make some change! I am a rocker at heart as I have said before so I'm sure whatever I'm wearing, even if its a flower pattern, I will also have my black hair or studded boots on =)

One thing that I love is a good old plaid button up shirt and a glam'd up touch to the outfit. I got this shirt from Target on the 70% off clearance rack and I just so happened to have some jewelry from Rue 21 that was the exact same color. Two totally different styles but I'm able to pull them together! All that's missing is bronzed skin and a fruity drink in hand! I also purchased a beach wave hot styling tool by Revlon from Walmart which is just like those triple barrel wave tools only the three barrels on this are a little larger. I'm a fan and ill be giving a friend my old triple barrel after this =) Thanks for reading my blog and don't forget to check back for parts 2 and maybe 3! I'm sure I will find a lot more spring/summer fashion ideas to blog about by the time the seasons change!

Check out these boots from Rock and Republic at Kohls. I have the same one's only in tan/brown for this summer =) Love them!

What I use to contour!

Hey there! Before I explain what I use to contour my face, I just want to put it out there that I am by no means an expert and there may be better products out there to use. This is what I found at my local Target and Wal-Mart while on a budget! I usually use a variety of make-up brands. Sometimes you can get away with more cheap make-up and sometimes you can't. It really depends on what product you are using. I went with Cover Girl for my foundation. Once I put it on evenly across my face, I dabbled on the appropriate amount of a highlighting powder by Hard Candy. This is sold at Wal-Mart. I use other products by Hard Candy and even though they are a little more expensive, I'm a fan! Last but not least I touched up with a smudge brush and a kit from NYC from Target. It works great to blend in some dark and light into the appropriate areas. That's all it took for me!
Here is a video I watched as I began my interest in contouring:

Finally getting to the fun part in photography class

If you are a photographer, you will understand my giddy mood when it came to my first day learning how to photo shop! When I have seen local photographers post pictures on Facebook or Instagram, I often wondered how they made the photos so colorful. Not to mention so dramatic! I wanted to know how to make the photos really come to life so I signed up for a class teaching you about your camera and another class that teaches all about photo shopping. I can photo shop OK on my own, but I wanted to know how to change backgrounds, add people into images or anything more difficult then just hitting the contrast button! I was taught how to properly use tools such as the burn tool, lasso, adjust levels and a lot of other things so far. We were given an unedited photo on the computer and supposed to try to use the tools we just learned about to make the unedited photograph come to life. Then the instructor would show us his finished edited version of it and we would all compare. As long as we could use the tools correctly, we weren't failing if our photo didn't look exactly the way he edited his. Why? Photography is art. Everyone can create their own masterpiece. Just make sure the photo is in focus where it should be and that you don't let your photos have noise. Its amazing how much you can doctor up a photo otherwise worth deleting! I'm so excited to learn more =) If you are interested in the same, check out your local Community ED classes for any photography courses. My home town only provides one so I got signed up down in the cities where they had at least 4-5 different classes. I'm taking two, one of which is in depth and runs for just under two months. Its with a real college instructor which makes it all the better. Worth every penny!
Here is the photo shop program I use at home:

Finally a good nights rest =)

I'm the type of person that needs a fan on them at night to both keep me cool and to distort any noise from neighbors, etc. I can't sleep well when I feel hot or my blankets aren't soft. I guess you could say I'm finicky when it comes to sleeping. Funny thing is, I never used to be but I used to know someone who absolutely had to have a fan on all night and a down feather comforter. I guess it rubbed off on me, haha. Anyways, I asked a cousin of mine where she got her satin sheets from. I've been looking for some for a while now but they aren't always easy to find. I bought a set from Wal-Mart for $20!

When I got home I put on the new bedding and tried them out. It was one of the best nights of sleep I have had in a while! The pros were the silky feeling against your skin and the satin pillow cases helped your pillow feel cool against your face! That's always a plus. I also noticed our pets fur didn't stick very well to it, haha. Again, that's always a plus too! They were very comfortable! There were a couple cons I suppose. My only real big concern is how slippery they are! Not only did I kind of slide around but we woke up on several occasions to our blankets and pillows sliding onto the floor. Honestly, the positives outweigh the negatives for me so I will definitely be keeping them =) Maybe one day after our wedding and purchasing of new vehicles we can buy some high thread count sheets but for now, these are amazing for the price =)
below is a link to the sheets at Wal-Mart:
